After the February Revolution: Formation of the Provisional Government

Following the February Revolution in 1917, the Provisional Government was established to temporarily rule Russia. This government consisted of army officials, landowners, and industrialists, many of whom were liberals and socialists aiming to set up an elected government. With the Tsar gone, restrictions on public meetings and associations were removed, allowing people to organize freely. During this period, local Soviets (workers’ councils), like the Petrograd Soviet, were established across Russia, playing an influential role in political decisions.
